I’m looking for a diamond close to 1.25ct, with a budget of $10,000.
I quite like this Blue Nile 1.2ct G VS1, what do you think of it?

Hi Tim,
It’s a nice diamond, but I think you can get more bang for your buck. As a preface, all of the options below have GIA EX/AGS 0 Ideal proportions and I think they’d be eye-clean.
The first option would lower clarity to SI1 and save you some money.
The second option maintains the VS1 clarity, improves the color to F, and saves you a bit of money. If you really like VS1, then I think this one is a no brainer.
The third and fourth options lower the clarity, but increase the size to 1.3ct.
The 1.39 D SI1 is interesting because it’s been in inventory for since 2016. However, it always hovered too high at $11000 and only recently dropped to a more reasonable $9140 within the past two weeks.
If you’re feeling adventurous, the 1.5 F SI2 goes towards the upper end of your budget, but jumps up to 1.5ct. I’ve found many people have reservations about SI2, but I think this is eye-clean.
